Boxey is a fictional character from the original Battlestar Galactica television series portrayed by Noah Hathaway. He is the son of Serina and soon after the beginning of the show he becomes the stepson of Captain Apollo.

Boxey grows up to become Captain Troy in Galactica 1980, portrayed by Kent McCord. Dialogue in the initial episode of Galactica 1980 indicates that "Boxey" was a childhood nickname, and that the character's given name was always Troy.

Boxey was a six-year-old survivor of the planet Caprica, following the holocaust of the Twelve Colonies of Kobol. His natural mother, Serina, was a (television) news reporter. Following the Cylon attack which destroyed the Colonies, Serina became romantically involved with Captain Apollo and began training as a Colonial warrior. She married Apollo, who became Boxey's step-father. However, Serina was killed shortly after the wedding by a Cylon centurion and, upon her death, Apollo's family became Boxey's only living relatives and he lived on board the Galactica.

Inconsolable over the loss of Muffit, his pet daggit (dog), the boy was given a replacement robot daggit, which he named Muffit II. The two became inseparable and had a number of adventures together, notably in the episodes entitled "Gun on Ice Planet Zero" and "Fire In Space", in which Muffit used his sensors to aid the Galactica officers.

By the time the Fleet discovered Earth after a (supposed) 30-year voyage, Troy had joined the Colonial forces as a Colonial Warrior and Viper pilot. Troy along with Lt. Dillon led the first team to interact with Earth which took place in the Earth year 1980.

Also named Troy he appears in Richard Hatch's relaunch novels set after the end of the TV series, having grown up and trained as a Viper pilot.

He also appears in a similar fashion in the Maximum Press Battlestar Galactica comics published in the 1990s.

Reimagined series (2003)

The character of Alex "Boxey" Boxman was included in the reimagined version of Battlestar Galactica in 2003. This version of Boxey is slightly older than the character in the original 1978 series (around 10 or 11 years old), and is played by Connor Widdows.

He is the son of the Colonial Armistice Station officer who is killed in the opening scenes of the miniseries. Boxey is one of the "children first" rescued by Lt. Sharon "Boomer" Valerii after the attack on Caprica. His mother did not win the lottery for one of the remaining seats and stayed behind.

Boxey only appears in the pilot miniseries, the third episode ("Bastille Day") of the weekly series, and a deleted scene for the episode "Water." He is a friend of Boomer and mascot of Lt. Kara "Starbuck" Thrace.
