The sources of law in Eritrea are mixed. It is a combination of various legislations, proclamations, regulations, legal notices, and Islamic Law. Islamic law is applicable on issues of succession, marriage and family issues for followers of Islam. For non-muslim issues of marriage, succession and family are governed by state-issued laws. While the other state-issued laws govern all other aspects of life for ordinary Eritrean citizenry. Customary law also has some bearing in governing and forming the body of law in Eritrea. [1]
