- For the purposes of this category, "Macaronesia" is defined in accordance with the World Geographical Scheme for Recording Plant Distributions (WGSRPD), namely as a region within the botanical continent of Africa that includes the following areas, typically defined by the political boundaries of its constituents:
- the Azores
- the Canary Islands
- Cape Verde
- Madeira
- the Savage Islands
- Native taxa of the lowest rank are included if they occur widely in the region, otherwise they should be included in the flora of one or more of the constituent areas. Higher taxa are included only if endemic.
