Count of Mértola

The title Count of Mértola (Conde de Mértola) was granted to Frederick Schomberg, 1st Duke of Schomberg by Afonso VI of Portugal, in 1663, as a reward for Schomberg's services with the Portuguese army. The title has often passed through female lines and is usually held concurrently by the Barons Darcy de Knayth and Conyers.
