The DC Filibusters where originally known as the Washington Power. Before the start of the 2009-10 season the team changed their name to the DC Filibusters. After 3 games of play the DC Filibusters fell on hard times and Mike Staple took over control of the team. Mike Staple moved the team to Grand Rapids, MI and released all of the original DC players.

The Filibusters moved divisions from the South to the North to accommodate their new home location. They field teams in the Pro, AAA and AA divisions.

After the season the DC Filibusters will get a new name to link them more with the Grand Rapids area.

In the fall of 2013, MLRH announced plans to return a team to the capital region. The DC Filibusters are competing in the MLRH East Conference for the 2013-2014 season and are currently favorites in the 2013-2014 "Fan Poll" that offers a Wild Card bid to the North American Championship Playoff event to the winning team.[1] The team opened its return season in Pittsburgh on January 11, 2014 and despite a depleted roster held their own against some of the most talented roller hockey organizations in the nation. Currently practicing out of Alexandria, Virginia and The Gardens Ice House in Laurel, Maryland, the Filibusters plan on returning a full roster to game action in February, 2014.
