Eleanor Roberta Scott (born 23 July 1951) is a Scottish politician and medical doctor. She is a former Scottish Green Party Member of the Scottish Parliament for the Highlands and Islands.

Background and career

She was born in Inverness in 1951 and educated at Bearsden Academy.[1] She studied at the University of Glasgow, graduating with a MB ChB.[1] She worked as a community paediatrician in Inverness 1980−87 and in Ross and Cromarty 1987−2003, helping to provide a service for special needs children in the Scottish Highlands.[1]

Since joining the Greens in 1989, Scott has campaigned on many issues, most recently against the building of new incinerators, GM crops in the Black Isle and the movement against war in Iraq. She has stood for election locally, nationally, for Westminster[2] and the European Parliament.

Scottish Parliament

She was elected to the Scottish Parliament in 2003, as the Greens gained a Highlands and Islands regional seat.[3] Her partner Rob Gibson, was also first elected from the Highlands and Islands regional list in 2003, as a Scottish National Party MSP. She took her oath as MSP in Scottish Gaelic as enthusiast who was keen on the language.

She stood again in the 2007 election but was not re-elected.[4] From 2008 to 2011 she was Co-convenor of the Scottish Green Party.[5][6]

She stood as the Scottish Green Party candidate for the Highlands and Islands region in the 2011 Scottish Parliament election.[7]
