Electoral (Amendment) (Dáil Constituencies) Act 2017
The Electoral (Amendment) (Dáil Constituencies) Act 2017 (No. 39/2017) is a law of Ireland which provides for new parliamentary constituencies, which will take effect at the next Irish general election for the 33rd Dáil Éireann.[1] The next general election is due by 12 April 2021 at the latest, but may take place before then.
This Act replaced the Electoral (Amendment) (Dáil Constituencies) Act 2013, which defined the constituencies used for the 32nd Dáil (elected in 2016). The 2017 report of the Constituency Commission,[2] an independent body established by the Government of Ireland to review constituency boundaries, proposed several changes to Dáil constituencies. It also increased the number of seats in the Dáil by 2 from 158 to 160. These changes were provided for by the Act.
