The Elizabeth River in Tasmania is a small river with a length of 59.6 km. It is located in the northern midlands of Tasmania.

The Elizabeth River flows through the traditional lands of the Peenrymairmemener and Tyrrernotepanner Clans of the North Midlands Nation.[1] They called this river parndokennelyerpinder( parn-doke-en-ner-ly-er-pin-der) - the prefix parndokenne referring to the country at modern day Campbell Town.[2]

The river was originally known by colonials in the first decade of the 19th century as Relief Creek, but was renamed by Governor Macquarie, for his wife, when he passed through in 1811.[3] The river begins above Lake Leake[4] and then flows south through Lake Leake and then flows west through the town of Campbell Town and then flows into the Macquarie River west of Campbell Town.[5]

The Red Bridge crosses the Elizabeth River at Campbell Town.
