Fazilka district is one of new and 22 districts in the state of Punjab in North-West Republic of India. It has 314 revenue villages.
The district headquarters of Fazilka District is in Fazilka City, and Abohar is district's largest city.
History
On 27 July 2011, Fazilka was announced as the 21st district of Punjab by Government of Punjab.[1] Before that Fazilka was included in Firozpur district.
Location
It is located next to the border with Pakistan, the border being to its west. It has the district of Firozpur to its north, Sri Muktsar Sahib to its east and Rajasthan to the south and Pakistan to its west.It was situated by Fazal din. It was called Bangla.
Geography
It has extreme climate, with the summers being very hot and the winters very cold. The River Sutlej runs through the district and moves over to the Pakistan side through the Indo-Pakistani border.
Administration
The Deputy Commissioner is the CEO of the district. Mr. Manjeet Brar , IAS is The Deputy Commissioner of Fazilka in 2014.The district is administratively subdivided into the following tehsils:
Abohar city is the largest city in Fazilka district.
