Frederick "Fred" William Lowrie (1 March 1868[1] — 9 August 1902 (aged 34)[2]) born in Wakefield, was a rugby union footballer of the 1880s and '90s, playing at representative level for England, and Yorkshire, and at club level for Wakefield Trinity, and Batley,[3] as a Forward, e.g. Front row, Lock, or Back row, he died in Leeds of consumption.[4] Prior to Thursday 29 August 1895, Batley, and Wakefield Trinity were a rugby union clubs.

Playing career

International honours

Fred Lowrie won caps for England while at Wakefield Trinity in 1889 against New Zealand Natives, and in 1890 against Wales.[5]

County honours

Fred Lowrie represented Yorkshire while at Wakefield Trinity.[6]

Change of Code

When Batley, and Wakefield Trinity converted from the rugby union code to the rugby league code on Thursday 29 August 1895, Fred Lowrie would have been 27 years of age. Subsequently, he didn't become both a rugby union and rugby league footballer for Wakefield Trinity and/or Batley.
