The Government College of Engineering, Keonjhar is a state run higher education institute located in Keonjhar, Odisha, India, focusing on education and research in the field of Mining Engineering. It was established in 1956 as a diploma institute. Degree streams were added in 1995. It was called the Orissa School of Mining Engineering (OSME) and in 2012 it was renamed to its present name. It is a constituent college of the Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT).

History
Government College of Engineering, Keonjhar ("a constituent college BPUT, Odisha") formerly known as Orissa School of Mining Engineering (Degree Stream) is the only government engineering college in North Odisha. The institute started under the Department of Industries, government of Odisha in 1956 offering Diploma education in Mining Engineering and later in 1995 introduced degree curriculum.
In 1997, Electrical Engineering & Mechanical Engineering branches were added as an expansion program. In 2006, the government of Odisha declared Orissa School of Mining Engineering (Degree Stream) as a constitute college of Biju Pattnaik University of Technology, Rourkela under self finance mode to develop it as a centre of excellence in the field of Engineering & Technology.
In 2008, Mineral Engineering and in 2009, Metallurgical & Materials Engineering were added. In 2015, Computer Science Engineering and Civil Engineering were added. As per a government notification in 2011 it has been declared as a full-fledged government engineering college.
Campus
The campus of the Government College of Engineering, Keonjhar is located in the beauties of rich green Keonjhar district. The institute has its 45 acre campus at the foothills of the mountains near Judia Ghat on the outskirts of Keonjhar city with NH no.6 & NH no.215 running along its two sides.
Centrally located near cities and industry, the college is well connected to Bhubaneswar (217 km), Cuttack (185 km), Rourkela (210 km), Sambalpur (230 km), mining hub Barbil (70 km), Jamshedpur (174 km), Kolkata (354 km). The nearest railway station is Kendujhargarh (5 km) and the nearest airport is Bhubaneswar (240 km).

Admission procedure
Students are admitted through the JEE-MAIN or OJEE National level entrance test. There is also provision of Lateral Entry of 10% of sanctioned intake for diploma holders directly to the third semester. For diploma holders to get admission into the third semester they have to pass in OJEE. Some seats are reserved for diploma engineering as per the rules of SCTE & VT, Odisha and DTET.
Training and placement
The Training and Placement cell provides placement assistance to the students. Personality development programs, group discussions, seminars,etc. are convened from time to time. Companies are invited for on-campus selections through the institution’s industrial link ups. Companies visit the college to recruit students. Training and placement liaises with companies for the summer training programme.
Though training has not been made compulsory, after the second year, students are encouraged to apply. Vocational Practical Training is a curricular requirement, the objective being to give the engineering students a scope to supplement their class room knowledge and have exposure to industrial life before they step into the professional world. Every student takes a minimum of 30 days practical training.
Students has been placed for practical training in organizations like Satyam, Infosys, US Technology, Accenture, Essel Mining, Runguta Mines, Mesco, Crompton Greaves, Ultra Tech Cement, Mesco, Vedanta, Jayswal Neco, Paradeep Phosphates Limited, OCL Steel, IMFA, ACC Cements, Monnet, MGM Steels, Arya Iron and Steels, OCL Cement, and Vedanta Resources.
