The Government News Network (commonly abbreviated GNN) was a UK Government press and public relations agency based in each of the nine English Government regions as well as in sub offices in Edinburgh, Cardiff and Plymouth and was renamed COI News & PR in April 2008. It is one part of the Central Office of Information which focuses on Government departmental and agency communication issues in the United Kingdom such as health, environment, transport, local government, heritage, health & safety and a multitude of other areas. COI was set up in 1946 to aid communication between government departments and the press and public as well as to manage government-media relations.
