Hamad Kalkaba Malboum, a Cameroon National, is the current President of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA). He has been at the helm since 2003, when he replaced Lamine Diack who became President of the International Athletics Federation (IAAF).[1]

Biography

Malboum was born on 11 November 1950 in Kawadji near Kousseri, a town in Cameroon bordering the Republic of Chad. Cameroon. He had his primary education in Kousseri, moving to Maroua for further education. school. After four years in Maroua, he graduated and started high school in Garoua. He was drafted to join the army in 1969. In 1972, he graduated from the Military School in Yaoundé in 1972 and became an officer. He attend Police School from 1972 through 1973, and Officer's school from 1987-1988 Officers’ School. Throughout his education he loved sports and music. He played Handball and Athletics. After Army service, he is now He is a retired senior army officer,

Sports career

From 1970–1974 he was a Member of the National Relay Team, 4 × 100 m. He also come teed in the 100m, 200m and Long Jump. In 1992 he founded the Cameroon the Baseball and Softball Federations; he remains Honorary President. He also became head of the Cameroon federations for handball, and athletics.

From 1976–1983 he was a Member of the Board of Directors of the National Sports Office and headed the International Military Sports Council (CISM) from 2010 to 2014.[2] He also served 1996 – present as Founder and Organiser of the “Espoir” Race (ascension of Mont Cameroon), from From 2001 to the present he has been head of the National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSC) and from 2003 to the present, head of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA).[3]

In Africa, he is one of the most influential athletic administrators especially as Lamine Diack is preparing to step down as President of the International Athletics Federation (IAAF).[4] Africa will not be presenting any candidate for the position of President but it will have a big say on who becomes President of World Athletics.[5]
