Heretaunga is a suburb of Upper Hutt located in the lower North Island of New Zealand. The suburb was established in the 1840s.[1] It takes its name from the Māori name for the nearby Hutt River, named after a Hawke's Bay district.[2][3] It is directly next to the suburb of Silverstream, and the two are commonly thought to be merged. It is served by Heretaunga Railway Station.
Heretaunga is a Māori name, and here means "to tie up", and taunga literally means "to be at home", i.e. it is a mooring place for canoes.[2]
