IP-guard, developed by the TEC Solutions Limited, is computer security software used by employers to defend internal and external threads within the Intranet.[1] At present, IP-guard consists of 14 modules and comprehensively meets the employers’ requirements for corporate computer management. For its modular design, customers can choose their needed modules to purchase based on limited budget.

History

In 2001,Teclink Development Limited and Easytec (This name has been registered by another company right now) were merged into one company named TEC Solutions Limited.[2] In the same year, TEC Solutions Limited started to develop the software OCULAR which was the former name of IP-guard. For its practical features, Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) decided to become a partner in 2002 and assisted in promoting the software to the whole Hong Kong public in order to help companies protect intellectual property and improve productivity.[3] The HKPC renamed OCULAR as IP-guard and given it rich and significant meaning “safeguarding your intellectual property” which became the slogan of IP-guard latter.

The first version of IP-guard was released on March 4, 2002 on a press conference hosted by the HKPC.[4][5] At the beginning, IP-guard only had screen capturing, screen recording, website monitoring, application logging, application filtering and device control features. Latter, more and more features were added. Till 2007, IP-guard could help employers record and control application usage, websites visited, device use, document operations, network connection, instant messaging, desktop screens and manage remote hosts as well as IT assets. More and more features were added to IP-guard which made the product price become higher and higher. However, not all the features were required by customers. In order to solve this problem, TEC Solutions Limited divided all the features into several modules based on different management aspects in 2007. Today, IP-guard has 14 modules in all.
