Joelle Joni "JoJo" Siwa[1] (born May 19, 2003) is an American dancer, singer, television personality, and model. She is best known for starring on the Lifetime reality series Dance Moms. In 2013, she rose to fame while competing on Abby Lee Miller's dancing competition show, Abby's Ultimate Dance Competition. She is currently still on the ALDC team and has continued to be on the show.

Early Life

Jojo Siwa was born on May 19, 2003 in a dance family in Nebraska to her mother, Jessalynn. Due to her mother owning a dance studio, JoJo was interested in dancing before she was even 1 years old and began learning hip hop dance over any other style.[2]

Career

2013-2014: Abby's Ultimate Dance Competition

JoJo came to prominence as the top 5 finalist on the second season of the Lifetime series Abby's Ultimate Dance Competition and the youngest dancer to make it to the season 2 finale.[citation needed] Siwa starred on the show with her mother, Jessalynn, and was eliminated in week 9, failing to make it to the semi finals.[3]

However, Abby has collaborated with JoJo since Abby Lee's Ultimate Competition. After being eliminated, two years later, Siwa was called back to audition for Abby's ALDC team.

2015-present: Dance Moms

JoJo began auditioning for the Abby Lee Miller's ALDC dance competition team in 2014, and she eventually made the team in early 2015.[4] Along with this, JoJo began appearing on the Lifetime reality show, "Dance Moms", following the ALDC team as well the mothers of the dancers competing weekly in dance competitions. JoJo has been an active member of the team since 2015 and continues to appear on the show.

On March 12, 2016, JoJo announced at the 2016 Kids' Choice Awards that her first single, "Boomerang" would be coming out in April. The song released on May 6, 2016 for digital download.[5][6] The music video for "Boomerang" is premiered on May 17, 2016 during a new episode of Dance Moms.[7] Siwa also performed "Boomerang" during the "Girl Talk" episode.[8] JoJo's ALDC teammate, Kendall Vertes, has a featured role in the "Boomerang" video.

JoJo is set to begin an accessory line at the Claire's retail store to sell her signature bows sometime this summer.[9] She hinted at the bow line in an Instagram video featuring some of the bows in the line.[10]
