Jondor District is a district of Bukhara Region in Uzbekistan. The capital lies at Jondor. Jondor district was found in 1937 on January 17. From 24 December 1962 it was part of Romitan and Bukhara districts. It was re-established on 9 January 1967. It is bordered by Olot and Qorako'l districts from south-west, with Bukhara, Romitan, Peshku districts from east and north-east. Its area is 5.17 thousand square kilometres. The population in 2001 was 123.7 thousand people. In Jondor district there is 1 city (Jondor) and 13 rural citizen's assemblies (Aleli, Dalmun, Lolo, Mirzayon, Navrobot, Oqshix, Po'loti, Samontiq, Romish, Sapatta, Xudonak, Xomin). Its center is Jondor town. In Jondor district there are 4 historical monuments: Mahmud Torobiy's grave, Varaxsha memorial, Shahri Islom fortress, Qizbibi memorial complex. "Jondor Ovozi" paper began to be printed in 1935.
Nature
Jondor district is located at the Bukhara oasis, north-west of the Zarafshan River's downstream, in the desert. The relief is mostly flat, partly marshy and salinisation. The rest of its territory is desert.
