Kites are Fun is the debut album from The Free Design, released in 1967. The group was signed to the Project 3 label after a demo recording that was completed with the assistance of the band's father.[3]

The tracks are composed of precise instrumental arrangements with high ranges in complex vocal harmonies.[4] Although the group achieved chart listing of number 33 with the single "Kites Are Fun" on the Billboard Adult Contemporary Charts, their success would be limited by their label's unsatisfactory promoting as the single only reached number 114 on the pop charts.[4] None of the group's future singles would chart on the national charts.
