Bruno Mars has recorded songs for various artists, one EP and two studio albums.

American singer and songwriter Bruno Mars has recorded songs for one EP and two studio albums, some of which were collaborations with others. Shortly after moving to Los Angeles, Mars signed to Motown Records in 2004 and was dropped shortly afterwards, he also held a conversation with Will.i.am's management which turned out fruitless.[1][2] After these two unsuccessful events, the singer signed a second contract with record label Atlantic in 2009.[3] Before becoming a successful solo artist, Mars was an acknowledged music producer, co-founding the production team The Smeezingtons.[4]

Mars reached prominence as a solo artist after being featured on and co-writing B.o.B's "Nothin' on You" and Travie McCoy's "Billionaire", included on B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray (2010) and Lazarus (2010), respectively.[5][6] Following this success, Mars released his debut extended play (EP), titled It's Better If You Don't Understand, on May 11, 2010.[7] The debut single released from Doo-Wops & Hooligans, "Just the Way You Are" was written by The Smeezingtons (Bruno Mars, Philip Lawrence, Ari Levine) in collaboration with Khalil Walton and Needlz.[8] However, most of the songs were produced solely by The Smeezingtons, including the singles "Grenade", "The Lazy Song", "Marry You", "Count On Me" and the promotional single "Runaway Baby".[8] The album was released on October 4, 2010.[9] Mars released "It Will Rain" on September 2011, as part of the soundtrack song co-written by The Smeezingtons used as the theme tune to The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 movie.[10] Mars appeared as a featured artist on "Mirror" by rapper Lil Wayne included on the deluxe edition of Tha Carter IV (2011),[11] and on Bad Meets Evil's "Lighters" from their debut extended play Hell: The Sequel (2011).[12] Later, on October 11, "Young, Wild & Free" was issued from the soundtrack of the 2011 film Mac & Devin Go to High School.[13]

Mars released his second studio album Unorthodox Jukebox on December 7, 2012.[14] In addition to reuniting with writers with whom he had previously worked, the singer collaborated with several new writers and producers. The first single released from Unorthodox Jukebox was "Locked out of Heaven", which was co-written by The Smeezingtons.[15] They co-wrote three other songs for the album: "Money Make Her Smile", "If I Knew" and the single "Gorilla"; they were entirely responsible for the production on the album's second and third single, "When I Was Your Man" and "Treasure.[15] Mars also collaborated with Emile Haynie on the single "Young Girls" and on the bonus track "Old & Crazy", which samples "Japanese Sandman".[15] At this time, the singer contributed guest vocals on the song "Bubble Butt" for Major Lazer's second studio album Free the Universe (2013).[16] On November 10, 2014, Mark Ronson released the single "Uptown Funk" which featured Mars' vocals and was produced by Ronson, Jeff Bhasker and Mars, included on Ronson's album Uptown Special (2015).[17] It has since been certified nine-times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).[18]
