Lucas Secon, also known by the stage name Lucas, is a Grammy Award[1][2] and MTV Award nominated[3] and a BMI Award winning[4] record producer, songwriter, DJ, rapper, and singer who has written and produced for The Pussycat Dolls, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Kylie Minogue, Toni Braxton, Mos Def, The Wanted, The Saturdays, JLS, Alesso, Snoop Dogg, Olly Murs, Boyz 2 Men, Cheryl Cole, Steve Aoki, Sean Kingston, Sugababes, Rivers Cuomo and Travie McCoy.[5][6][7][8][9][10]

Career

1990-1994: solo career

Signed to Uptown Records by Andre Harrell, Secon debuted in 1990 with the album To Rap My World Around You.[11]

In 1993 he signed with Atlantic Records' East Coast hip hop and dance music record label, Big Beat, and released his 1994 album, the jazz-influenced Lucacentric which hit the Top 40 in at least 10 countries.[citation needed] It also spawned the single Lucas with the Lid Off, which peaked at #29 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100[12] and became his only Top 40 hit as a solo artist. The music video for the single, directed by Michel Gondry, received a Grammy Award for Best Music Video nomination at the 37th Annual Grammy Awards and a MTV Video Music Award nomination for Best Male Video[13] in 1995.

Song writing and producing career

Following the release of Lucacentric, Secon moved into music production and song writing, producing and writing for recording artists such as The Pussycat Dolls, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, The Wanted, Kylie Minogue, Toni Braxton, Mos Def, The Saturdays and Keisha White.

He wrote and produced on three no.1 UK albums: Conor Maynard's Contrast, Olly Murs's Right Place Right Time and Kylie Minogue's Aphrodite, and two UK no.2 albums with The Wanted's debut album[14] and Sugababes Angels with Dirty Faces;[15] as well as a top 5 American album with The Pussycat Dolls's Doll Domination, a no.1 US R&B Billboard album with Toni Braxton's Pulse a Top 10 American albums with Aaron Carter's Platinum-certified Oh Aaron[16] and a no.3 Billboard album with Big Time Rush's BTR[17]

Awards and nominations

Secon has been nominated for Grammy and MTV awards, and in 2010 won a BMI London Award in Pop Music for The Pussycat Dolls I Hate This Part.

History

Secon’s American father, Paul Secon, who worked as a music critic and a Billboard reporter, was also a musician and songwriter whose work was performed by Nat King Cole, The Ink Spots, Rosemary Clooney,[22] and The Mills Brothers, who recorded Secon’s composition ‘’You Never Miss the Water (Till the Well Runs Dry)’’.[23] Paul Secon also wrote a musical, ’’Patrick X’’, based on the life of civil rights activist Malcolm X.[24] His mother is Danish artist Berta Moltke, former head of the Danish Academy of Arts.[25] Secon’s son, Fabian, is also a recording artist [26]
