The Melbourne Stars Women's team is a cricket team based in Melbourne, Australia that will compete in the inaugural women's Twenty20 Women's Big Bash League commencing in December 2015.[3] They will be one of eight founding teams. They are a franchise aligned with the current men's competition (Big Bash League), adopting the same colours and team name.
Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland said in a media release, "We see T20 as the premium format of the women's game and the WBBL is an exciting concept that will increase the promotion and exposure of women’s cricket".[4] The team will be captained by Southern Stars captain Meg Lanning,[5] and coached by David Hemp.
