History

Yoomedia was a British interactive television company operating mainly within the gambling and gaming sectors, producing its own channel Avago as well as working with clients including ITV, the NHS,[2] and the BBC. These services ranged from channel playout and scheduling to interactive media creation and return path provision.

Although they operated a range of services, including a dating service Dateline and a car park payment system YooPark,[3] their main presence in the media world was their gaming channel Avago, which was eventually sold to Gala for a reported £5 million.[4]

Fresh IT was a Spanish technology company that created and maintained solutions for the interactive television industry. Unlike YooMedia, they did not create or produce any content, but instead produced interaction and advertising services for the media, including Digital+, Euskaltel and Jazztel in Spain, BSkyB, ITV[5] and Music Choice in the UK and Disney Television International, Universal Studios Network and Warner Bros..[6]

mirada PLC was formed by the merger of Fresh IT with Yoomedia in 2007.[7]

Current Structure

Currently, mirada is divided into two distinct operational areas in the world of Digital TV and Audiovisual Interaction: Product Development and Professional Services.

'Products' - mirada offers a multi-screen approach to digital TV platforms, with a suite of end-to-end modular products, up and running on STBs, PC and companion devices such as mobiles and tablets, all with original EPG designs. mirada provides multiple device support (across PC, set top box and companion devices), cross-platform integration, user-interface design, database support and back-end services.[8]

Iris - [9] Iris is mirada´s TV anywhere proposition. This multi-screen solution merges the best of traditional broadcast and OTT services, presenting an easy-to-use, unified user experience across multiple devices: STB, PC and companion devices. The Iris platform has two User Interfaces available: Origin and the rebranded Inspire User Interface.

Combined with the Iris Service Delivery Platform, mirada´s back-end services, operators can get access to audience measurement, advanced search features and personalized recommendations.[10]

xPlayer - has been designed to manage and deploy synchronised interactive content to multiple TV platforms. xPlayer manages red and green button interactivity on behalf of a channel, across satellite, digital terrestrial and cable. Red button triggers applications, allowing viewers to interact with content on screen (such as adverts, votes, quizzes, etc.), while the green button enables scheduling or recordings and reminders. In addition, xPlayer provides EPG triggering to ensure accurate PVR recording.[11]

Navi - [12] Navi is an interactive navigational solution designed by mirada for SVG browsers, built on Ericsson multi-screen middleware. Navi is a complete set of navigational services, including VoD and PPV services, PVR, content promotion and Channel Surfer for linear TV.

'Services' - In addition to mirada´s product line, the company also offers Professional Services, Bespoke Development and Consultancy, both based on mirada´s experience in the sector built around the user experience.[13]

Bespoke Development - mirada is adapting, customizing and integrating new functionalities and customer requirements into solutions and products. Apart from this, mirada has developed a number of services from scratch, following customer requirement/specifications. Among the bespoke services/solutions, mirada has deployed EPG, VoD, games, communications services, enhanced TV applications, etc. In addition, mirada provides interactive marketing services for a large range of clients across multiple platforms - mobile, web and broadcast.[14]

Consultancy - mirada has assisted many customers and partners with UI design and specification, application architecture definition and integration with other elements, and has a history of developing and deploying websites and microsites to support and augment promotional activity, providing both technical and design services.[15]

"Projects" - company's primary markets are Europe and Latin America.
