Notophthalmus is a genus of newts known commonly as North American newts. There are three species. The name derives from Greek νῶτον ("nōton"), back, and Greek ὀφθαλμός ("ophthalmos"), eye.

- Striped newt, Notophthalmus perstriatus (Bishop, 1941)
- Eastern newt, Notophthalmus viridescens (Rafinesque, 1820)
