P. N. Ramachandra Rao is an Indian film director who has worked on Telugu, Kannada and Tamil films.

Career

Ramachandra Rao entered the Telugu film industry as an assistant director for P. Chandrasekhara Reddy at the age of 17. His first film as an assistant director was Kottha Kapuram by Reddy released in 1973. Ramachandra Rao made a breakthrough with Chitram Bhalare Vichitram (1991), which ran in theatres for over 200 days in Andhra Pradesh.

Rao made the successful Subhavaartha (1998) starrimg Arjun and Soundarya, and then was offered the chance to remake it in Tamil by Kalaipuli S. Thanu. Rao cast veteran actor Sivaji Ganesan in the Tamil version along with Arjun and the fil narrated the tale of an unlettered millionaire and his intelligent, but unlettered son who marries the well-educated Soundarya, and the problems which subsequently arise. The Tamil version however did not perform well at the box office. In 2003, he made Golmaal, a comedy film starring J. D. Chakravarthy and Ramesh Aravind in the lead roles. Ramachandra Rao also had to forcibly become the producer of the film as the original producer left the project due to debts. A critic from Idlebrain.com added "the comedy timing by director is good, but the film is wrapped up without concentrating on the quality".
