Plan-B Theatre Company is one of three professional theatre companies in Salt Lake City, Utah. It is the smallest in terms of budget and staff. Plan-B develops and produces unique and socially conscious theatre, it is the only theatre company in Utah devoted to developing new plays by Utah playwrights, and is the resident theatre company at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center.[1]

History

The theater was founded in 1991 and incorporated in 1995 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

As of April 2015, 82 of the 110 productions in Plan-B's history have been world premieres, 80 by Utah playwrights.[2]

Plan-B is the only theatre company in Utah history to have published anthologies of full-length, original plays: Plays From Behind The Zion Curtain (2008) and More Plays From Behind The Zion Curtain (2010), published by Juniper Press/Oxide Books and Even More Plays From Behind The Zion Curtain (2012), New Plays IV (2013), #SeasonOfEric (2014) and New Plays VI (2015), published by Smashwords.[3]

IndieTheatreNow has also published PLAN-B in NYC (2013).

Plan-B is also the only theatre company in Utah history to have toured internationally (Leslea Newman's A Letter To Harvey Milk, Frankfurt, Germany; Aden Ross' AMERIKA, Toronto, Ontario, Canada) and transferred an intact production off-Broadway (Carol Lynn Pearson's Facing East). In 2013, Matthew Greene's Adam & Steve And The Empty Sea toured to the New York International Fringe Festival and Matthew Ivan Bennett's Eric(a) toured to the United Solo Theatre Festival, also in New York, where it won Best Drama.

Plan-B operates under a Letter of Agreement with Actors' Equity Association and an Independent Producers Agreement with the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society. Plan-B is also an associate member of the National New Play Network.
