Sanam Shetty is an Indian film actress and model. She is a qualified software engineer, who worked for TCS in Chennai, before she stepped into the film industry.[1]
Career
Sanam is from Bengaluru. Her father is from Karnataka and mother is from Andhra Pradesh and she is fluent in both Kannada and Telugu.[2] She was working with a software firm until 2011.[2] She used to work for TCS in Chennai and had done a bit of modelling during her college days.[3] She was also modelling as she was working.[2] While in the UK, she received offers to act in films, but did not pursue it. But she took a break from her job, and landed in Chennai to test acting.[3]
Sanam's first film was Ambuli, an experimental film, which was also the first stereoscopic Tamil film, with actor-director R Parthiepan, after which she did Cinema Company in Malayalam.[2] She decided to stay in films and quit her job in the UK.[3] Sanam was to make her debut in Telugu films with K Raghavendra Rao's Intinta Anamayya. Her role in the film was that of an NRI rock star with a very modern outlook.[1] Intinta Anamayya was never released.[4] Her next releases were the Tamil film Maayai by J R Kannan,[5] and the Malayalam films Ravu directed by Ajith Ravi Pegasus,[6] and Daivathinte Swantham Cleetus in which she was paired opposite Mammootty.[7]
She went on to sign several Tamil projects, including Kalaivendhan, directed by Parasuram, in which she was said to play a dual role,[7] a heroine-oriented action film by Aabavanan, in which Sanam was to play a Black Belt Kung Fu expert,[8] Katham Katham, directed by Babu Thooyavan, and Vilasam.[9] The latter was her only release in 2014 and she had a "de-glam" role as a college girl in it.[10] She has further more signed the Tamil films, Sawaari [11] and Vellaya Irukkaravan Poi Solla Maataan, which would feature her as an NRI wife,[12] and the Telugu film Srimanthudu, her biggest project till date.[4] She has also been filming for a Kannada project starring Prajwal Devaraj.[12]
