The Sign Language Centre Belfast was a sign language organisation based in Belfast founded by Shane Gilchrist and Richard McFadden. Richard McFadden, educated at Jordanstown Schools, also founded Foyle Sign Language Centre and Foyle Deaf Association in Derry.

SLCB was to fight for better sign language rights, provide sign language classes in Irish Sign Language and Northern Ireland Sign Language.

National School Signs Initiative

SLCB was the pioneer in leading the set-up of sign language classes provided for hearing children at state and private schools in Northern Ireland, Dublin, Leeds and London. Over 2,500 hearing children were taught sign language on a weekly basis.
