Steven Cooper is a Welsh football manager and former semi-professional footballer.

Career

Cooper began his career at Wrexham but did not make an appearance for the club. He later played for Rhyl, Bangor City, The New Saints and Porthmadog.[1] While at Bangor City, he played in the UEFA Cup against FK Sartid Smederevo in 2002.[2]

At the age of 27, Cooper became a UEFA Pro-license qualification holder.[3] On 3 September 2008, after being head of youth development at Wrexham, he was appointed at Liverpool, initially taking charge of the under-12's.[4] On 18 July 2011 he was named Academy manager.[5]

On 13 October 2014, Cooper was appointed as manager of the England national under-16 team.[3] The following year, he was in charge of the under-17s.

Personal life

Cooper is the son of former Welsh referee Keith Cooper.[6] He resides in Wrexham and describes himself as a "proud Welshman".[7]
