Serbia's Novak Djokovic defeated Spain's Carlos Alcaraz in the final, 7–6(7–3), 7–6(7–2) to win the gold medal in men's singles tennis at the 2024 Summer Olympics. He did not drop a set en route to Serbia's first gold medal in Olympic tennis. With the win, Djokovic completed the career Golden Slam (becoming the third man to do so, after Andre Agassi and Rafael Nadal), the career Super Slam (the second man to do so, after Agassi), thereby becoming the only singles man to win all Big Titles. In the bronze medal match, Italy's Lorenzo Musetti defeated Canada's Félix Auger-Aliassime, 6–4, 1–6, 6–3. It was Italy's second Olympic tennis medal, 100 years after Uberto De Morpurgo won a bronze medal in the men's singles in 1924.[1]

The men's singles tennis event at the 2024 Summer Olympics took place from 27 July to 4 August 2024 at the Stade Roland Garros, in Paris, France.[2] 64 players from 27 nations competed.[3]

Alexander Zverev was the defending gold medalist from 2021,[4] but lost in the quarterfinals to Musetti.[5]

For the third straight Summer Olympics, Djokovic was the top seed. By reaching the final, Djokovic became the oldest men's singles finalist in Olympic tennis, and Alcaraz became the youngest. Djokovic also became the fifth man ever to win multiple medals of any color.[6] The final was a rematch of the Wimbledon final played three weeks prior, in which Alcaraz prevailed.[7]

Qualification

<templatestyles src="Module:Hatnote/styles.css"></templatestyles>

Each National Olympic Committee (NOC) can enter up to four players. Nations are limited to four players in the event since the 2000 Games. Qualification for the men's singles is primarily through the ATP ranking list. There are 64 quota places available for men's singles.[3]

Competition format

The competition was a single-elimination tournament with a bronze medal match. Matches were best-of-3 sets. A 7 point tiebreak was played in all sets reaching 6–6, including the last set of a match.[8]
