The Fallen Sparrow is a 1942 novel by mystery writer Dorothy B. Hughes. Richard Wallace directed a film noir under the same title in 1943. The novel was dedicated to Eric Ambler.
Claude Mesplède in the Dictionary of Detective Literature states that "this fascinating thriller published in the middle of the war, unequivocally denounces fascist ideology and torture. If coincidences abound, the essential interest of the story lies in the reconstitution of the uneasiness and the heavy atmosphere that overwhelms the hero, leading him to doubt everyone and everything".[1]
