The Village at Manalapan is a multi-use lifestyle center that is proposed in Manalapan, New Jersey, United States. It is opposed by some local residents due to the concern of congestion on Route 33.[1] While the plan calls for 500,000 square feet (46,400 m²) of retail space, a proposed movie theater was removed from the original design.[2]

Features

The Village at Manalapan will feature merchants in a traditional “downtown” area as well as national tenants. The downtown village will include a variety of restaurants, cafés, and a selection of regional and local specialty shops and boutiques. A General Development Plan approved in 2009 also call for an independent free standing Solar Energy System which when completed will provide upwards of 75% of the center's electric needs. In keeping with its green focus, the village design has undertaken great efforts to include pedestrian walkways and bikeways throughout the entire complex. Previous traffic concerns within the area have been remedied with the plan's inclusion of a new municipal bypass roadway that will provide a new signalized intersection along the projects frontage on Route 33.

Concerns

Since there are major traffic concerns for Route 33 and Millhurst Road, traffic solutions will be planned for the area around the intersection.

With The Village at Manalapan's 2009 GDP (General Development Plan) approval and its 9-1 township planning board vote, previous traffic concerns have been fully addressed with the projects inclusion of a new municipal bypass road that will provide signalized access via Route 33 which will additionally elevate existing traffic pressures at Route 33 and Millhurst Road as well. At the December 2009 Manalapan Planning Board meeting, The Village at Manalapan legal and design team received accolades from several Planning Board members for both the design of the project and the solution it will afford the community in elevating existing traffic conditions.
