Tourism in Equatorial Guinea

Because Equatorial Guinea has undergone many years of international isolation, its tourism industry is very undeveloped, with limited hotel space available in Malabo and Bata. Attractions include the Spanish colonial architecture of Malabo, the beaches, and the tropical rain forests. A certificate of vaccination against yellow fever is required. A valid passport is needed; there are no visa requirements for US passport holders.

In 2004, the US Department of State estimated the cost of staying in Equatorial Guinea at $218 per day.

• Music genres: Music based in the Mvet (played by Fang ethnic tribe, music for mvet is written in a form of musical notation that can only be learned by those initiated into society bebom mvet), Balélé, El Ibanga, El Tam-tam. There is little popular music coming from Equatorial Guinea. Pan-African groups with styles like Soukous and Makossa are popular and so are the reggae, rock and roll and hip hop. Acoustic guitar bands based on the Spanish model are known.
