The University of Education (Urdu: یونیورسٹی آف ایجوکیشن‎) (initials: UE), is a public research university located in a residential area of Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. It is a multi–campus university whose institutions and campus are located in different metropolitan cities of Punjab province of Pakistan.

Established in 2002, it offers undergraduate, post-graduate and doctoral programmes in various academic disciplines including arts and science. Approximately 13,000 students attend the university. It was ranked as one of the top institutions of higher learning in Pakistan by Higher Education Commission (HEC) in 2010. The university's official policy is aimed towards stimulating ambiance to give its scholars a cutting-edge research in today's world of competition and professionalism.

Campuses

Lower Mall Lahore Campus

The Lower Mall Campus is one of the oldest campuses of the University of Education. A scheme for the establishment of a teacher training college in Punjab was launched by Lt. Col. W.R.M Holroyd, the then Director of Public Instruction, Punjab in the year 1877-78. The Govt. of Punjab sanctioned this proposal and the Central Training College (CTC) was established in the Old Normal Scool building in Huzuri Baagh in 1880 with the objectives:

To prepare men for employment as teachers in English and vernacular schools for secondary education To train men for the practical art of teaching and school management To train men to be able to teach various subjects through the medium of English language Prof. R.Dick was the first principal of the college. The vernacular classes started in 1880 while teaching through the medium of English started in February 1881. The classes were for some time held in the building of the Govt. College, Lahore and at the completion of the building (with financial assistance from Rai Mela Ram, a philanthropist), the classes were shifted to the present campus in 1887. In the year 1902, CTC became the first institution in the subcontinent to offer Bachelor of Teaching (BT) program in affiliation with the University of the Punjab, Lahore.

In year 1917, the first educational conference was held at CTC. The college also published a research journal titled Punjab Educational Journal biannually. Prof. S.M.Sharif (famous for Sharif Commission Report on Education) took over as the Principal of CTC in 1946. The first post-independence educational conference was held at CTC by the Govt. of Pakistan from 24-27 November, 1947.

On August 30, 1976, CTC was renamed as Govt. College of Education for Men, Lahore. On September 10, 2002, the Govt of the Punjab, through an ordinance, established University of Education and the erstwhile Govt. College of Education was declared a campus of the newly established university. Since then, the Lower Mall Campus has been rendering commendable services to the cause of education in Pakistan.

The Campus offers various programs including B. Ed (Elementary, Secondary and Special Education), M. Ed and MA Education in the field of Education. In the academic year 2012-13, two new courses B.Ed Hons (4 years) and M. Phil in Education are being launched. In addition to these, the Campus offers BBA (Hons) and an MBA program for the candidates having BBA (Hons) degree is going to be launched in this academic year.

The Lower Mall Campus has been the centre of research activity in the field of teacher training and education. The campus hosts various international conferences and training programs for teaching professionals every year. Such activities help initiating discourses on current and future orientation of research in the field of education and teacher training.

The Campus has the services of highly qualified faculty members with PhDs both from Pakistan and abroad. The faculty members are a wonderful blend of youth and experience. A number of young faculty members are currently enrolled in various doctoral programs and some of them are expected to get their degrees in the next academic year. This ensemble of experience and youth ensures a cordial and cosy learning experience for the prospective students.

Attock campus

Soon after the establishment of UE, the Attock Capmus introduced B.Ed program in 2002-03. This Campus was established with the active role of District Govt to meet deficiency of qualified teachers. Due to the need of the area the employment rate of the graduates of this Campus is very high. That is why the popularity of its various programs is on a continuous rise. The Construction of new administrative and teaching blocks of campus has been completed. This Campus is providing higher education facilities to the comparatively less developed region of the Punjab.

Bank Road Campus Lahore

The University of Education Bank Road Campus Lahore has a long history of almost 79 years. It was established in 1933 in the heart of Lahore city as “Lady Maclagan Training College”. This was the first and the largest institution for female teachers in Asia. This institution produced well trained, well groomed and committed teachers who served not only in their own country but spread over to serve the British Kingdom also. In 1976, , the institution was named as Govt. College of Education for Women , Lahore and it continued to be one of the most renowned teacher education institution in Asia and boasts of being the only teacher Education institution for women in Pakistan. In September,2002, with the establishment of University of Education, it became one of the constituents of the UE.

Dera Ghazi Khan Campus

Established in 2002, University of Education currently offers nationally and internationally accepted 23 degree programs and plans to offer diploma programs as part of its continual expansion, to nearly 7,000 students, ranging from B.Ed. to Ph.D., in its five Divisions and ten Campuses. In a short span of time, UE has assumed leadership role in the field of teacher education addressing issues of access and quality throughout the province. UE provides its students quality leaning environment, challenging expectations, consistent guidance and mentoring. U.E Campus D.G.Khan is one of the prominent campuses of University Of Education Lahore. This campus was established in the beautiful building of the College of education that was constructed and upgraded under the supervision of its pioneer principal, Prof. Muhammad Abdullah Khan (late). The Campus building comprises an Academic block, Admin block, and two well furnished hostels (male & female).

The Campus is going to offer M.A Education, M.Ed, B.Ed Programme (Morning and Evening) from this academic year. The campus has qualified and efficient staff, fulfilling the academic needs of the students. They focus on the growth and development, teacher education, covering each apart of their personality. Apart from this, the services of visiting faculty of the high caliber are arranged to satisfy the needs of the ambitious students.

Faisalabad campus

University of Education, Campus Faisalabad has won a great place among the educational institution due to its outstanding performance and excellent results. This institutions need no introduction as it has already established a well –reputed name but it will be beneficial to narrate the historical perspective of this prestigious institute for the people who are still unaware of it. Likewise, it is also necessary to tell about great and honorable personalities who burnt their mid-night oil to take this institute to the height of glory.

This institute was established in 1961. It started working in the building of Auqaaf department situated on Dijkot Road. But this place was not sufficient for the fulfillment of the great objectives which this institute wanted to achieve. Therefore, this instate was transferred to the present campus which is built on 23 acres.

This very first name given to this institute was "Govt. College for Evaluators of Primary Education in West Pakistan, Lyallpur". Then its name was changed into " Govt. Training College, Lyallpur" In 1976,it was given the name " Govt. College of Education, Faisalabad". It seems as if the names kept on changing along with the expansion in its objectives.

All over the Punjab, a great number of such type of institutes are working for the development of the teacher training discipline. But their collective efforts are not as much well-organized as are required by our nation or you can say that it was necessary to organize them as a whole so that the changing demands of the time and nation could be fulfilled. To achieve this end. Govt. of the Punjab decided to establish "University of Education".

It will be appropriate to introduce the campus of this institute now. It campus consists of Educational Block, Science Block, Quaid-e-Azam Post Gradute Block, Mosque and Play grounds. There are town hostels for female students. This institute attracts the knowledge-seekers because of its building, pleasant environment and skill teachers.

The glory of any institute lies in its aims and objectives. Great objectives make an institute great. The main objective of University of Education Campus, Faisalabad is teacher training. It educates the teachers of the nation. Art of educating has become a Science now. It helps in finding out the key to unlock the door of knowledge to the students. Students are the asset of a nation. They are the future of a nation; therefore, betterment of students is actually betterment of future of a nation. A minor deficiency in students can cause a great loss to the nation. That is why a wise nation always shows a great concern for its students. Pakistan is an ideological state which s based on the principles of Islam. Therefore, a teacher has to play multidimensional roles and duties in our country. He /She has to transfer not only knowledge but also the true principles of Islam to the new generation. He/She has to transfer national heritage and real history of the country to the youth. To perform this great duty, a teacher should be will equipped and trained. This institute is preparing teachers to meet the above said requirements.

Jauharabad Campus

This institution started working as Johar Government Girls School and on November 01, 1971 obtained the status of Government College for Elementary Teachers and ultimately achieved its present status of a University of Education Campus in 2004. The campus has witnessed the evolution of teachers' education from normal school to a University of Education campus. Although in its inception period, it lacked teaching staff, academic facilities and advanced courses for studies. But at present, it has qualified staff which plays very important role in achieving our objectives of imparting quality education to the people of this region. Govt Girls Practicing Middle school Jauharabad is attached with this campus, It has launched multi disciplinary courses this year. The campus covers an area of 36 acres of land. It has a network of building structure including offices, classrooms, labs, library, staffrooms, girls' hostel and a canteen. The Campus is an excellent place having an environment conducive to studies and a beautiful sight to enjoy. Institutes are established with specific aims and objectives. UE is stuck to its aims of developing good management skills and improving techniques in learning process. Our teaching and non teaching staff provides students with the necessary guideline and counseling to achieve their goals in a better way. UE staff believes in hard work, discipline and takes its profession as a religious and moral obligation. Their devotion to well-being of their students is exemplary. They are humble, dedicated, and fully devoted to the welfare of their students. A purely learning atmosphere is provided to the students where they feel satiated as their curios sense feels satisfaction under special consideration of teaching staff. Right in the centre of Jauharabad this campus is like heaven for curious and talented students.

Multan campus

Multan, the City of Saints has a long history that can be traced back to 4000 years. More probably, it is one of the most ancient living city of the world. This city has been ruled by various dynasties. The old houses and many of artifacts speak of its past glory. Multan has been the center of Education throughout its history.

As number of desirous and interested people from all over the Sub-continent has been receiving Education in this ancient city to quench their thirst of knowledge. Multan has always been a tower of light erected in the great sea of time and beacon for educating people of the area. This has been the tradition of Multan to promote spiritual / mystical as well as modern Education to cater the needs of its inhabitants and adjoining areas. This is an obligatory responsibility to carry on the tradition in its befitting manner by launching programs in the various fields like education, management sciences and Information Technology etc.

The campus is staffed with highly academically prepared individuals. The faculty members have been educated at local as well as foreign universities. This perfect blend of knowledge and experiences of various cultures makes the campus a right choice for those who wish to develop themselves into successful teacher educators, researchers and educational administrators, managers and technologists.

The aim of starting education programs is to produce trained teachers educators, researchers and the persons having high skills of providing guidance and counseling services in specific fields of education. Keeping in view the expansion status and the need of Multan City, the UE Multan Campus started new creative and market oriented degree programs in addition to Education

Okara campus

The Okara Campus of University Of Education, Lahore was inaugurated by the Ex-prime Minister of Pakistan Mr. Shoukat Aziz in 2005. Following this declaration, the Ex-senior Federal Minister and Minister for Defense, Rao Sikandar Iqbal inaugurated the University academic programs in August 2005 at the present building in "Kalsoom Educational Campus" Samadpura Okara. In October 2005 classes were started in M.A. Education, English, B.S (Hons) Chemistry and Biological Science, BBA (Hons), B.Ed. and M.Ed. in morning and M.Sc. in Mathematics were added to the evening programs. From 2010 Master of Educational Leadership and Management Studies (MAELM) was launched. M. Phil Education is being offered from 2011 in the evening session. B.Ed. (Hons) Elementary and B.S (Hons) Mathematics was launched from 2012. From Semester Fall 2013 PhD in Education, MS Botany and BS (Hons) IT are also going to be launched.

Adequate laboratory and library facilities are available apart from hiring of learned faculty members. Today we have three well established science laboratories; a good computerized library with access to HEC digital library and a well-established computer laboratory with 50 update computers. Internet facility is a compulsory component of our training for all the students in 1st semester so that they all are able to benefit from this wonderful invention in acquiring the latest knowledge through internet.

Government of the Punjab has already transferred 205 acres of land from Mitchell's Fruit Farm to the University of Education for building of new campus. The whole financial cover is being provided by the HEC for the construction. The campus is being planned by NESPAK. We welcome you to great seat of learning.

The University of Education Okara Campus has shifted its classes to the newly build building at Renala Khurd from semester Fall 2012. Initially classes of MS Botany, B.S (Hons) Botany, B.S (Hons) Chemistry, B.S (Hons) Mathematics, BS (Hons) IT and MA English has been shifted to the excellent erected building. In the meanwhile work of different developmental projects is also going on including, Library, Staff Residences, Water tank and sevarage, Play grounds and Roads infrastructure.

Vehari Campus

UE Vehari Campus

Govt. College for Elementary Teacher (W) Vehari was established on January 1998. The institution aimed to impart training & practicum to in-service teachers as well as prospective teachers. Since its inception, it mainly focused teacher education, therefore, such Programmes were initiated as led the in-service teachers to be engaged in experiential learning and supported them to strengthen their teaching skills. It has successfully performed the role of a leading institution in teacher education in the area. After the establishment of University of Education, Lahore in August, GCET (W) Vehari was entitled as University College of Education Vehari on June 22, 2005. On September 9, 2006 University College of Education, Vehari was granted the status of a Campus of University of Education. Govt. Girls High School Vehari is attached with the Campus as the practicing School since it being the constituent campus of University of Education, Lahore it has been offering new Programmes along with the courses specifically aiming at teacher education. The new Programmes are job specific and engage students in experiential learning. It has become a prestigious institution committed to provide quality education, professional excellence, creativity building and skill development opportunities to the individuals to make them conscious and responsive to the modern trends in education around the globe, and prepare them to play active role for the amelioration of the community.

University of Education, Vehari Campus is a newly built institution with its spectacular architectural design and peaceful location. University of Education, Vehari Campus, is an institution that is well on its way to gradual development in all academic, co-academics, logistic and administrative aspects. It started serving as center of teacher education gut now it has been transformed into a leading University Campus with variegated and broadrange Programmes in the fields of natural sciences, social sciences, computer sciences, teaching profession, arts and humanities. It is being developed keeping in vies the present education scenario, future trends in education, socio-cultural needs of society, emerging research culture, spectrum of scientific learning, professional competency and broad range of academic Programmes.

Township Campus

Township Campus has renowned history of producing professionals in teaching, research and skill to cater the need of the nation builders in the province. It has been a co-educational institution since its inception. It offers an innovative and unique four years composite course, Bed (H) combining science with Bed and after completion issuing a graduation degree of national and international level for the prospective Secondary Science Teachers. They will be capable of teaching four science subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics.

This Campus is distinguished among other training institutes in that, here the students after having passed FSc, not only receive degree in the subject of education, but also practical training in pedagogy in all science and arts subjects being taught at Secondary School level. Division of Education

The Division of Education consisting of prominent scholars plays a significant role in the overall working of the UE. As a centre of quality research, it performs the missionary task of developing leaders in education and innovative indigenous teaching-learning processes. Currently, this Division focuses research on emerging areas of teacher education, educational administration, curriculum, assessment, ICT-directed learning and state policies. The Division provides research-based academic service to the government and community in teacher development.

Division of Science and Technology

The Division of Science and Technology focuses on inquiry-based science learning, quality research and relevant instructional material. This Division provides continuous professional development to science teachers particularly in Punjab. Faculty and trainees create and fabricate science teaching instruments for strengthening laboratory experiments and viable marketability. Current institutional research interests include natural, physical and applied sciences.

Division of Arts and Social Sciences

The Division of Arts and Social Sciences, in addition to degree in Education, offers creative and market-oriented degree programs in languages, economics, history, geography and management. It has already taken initiative to launch M.A English B.Ed, M.A Urdu B.Ed, PhD Urdu, M.Phil leading to PhD Urdu. The Division also offers BBA Hons and MBA to produce skilled business executives. The Division enjoys the presence of highly qualified teachers and researchers who are rendering envious services to promote research culture and educational excellence in the campus. The faculty of the Division guides student’s academic work and supervise their research works addressing socio-economic issues in the education system of Pakistan.
