The Western Australian Club, originally was known as the Exchange Club, and in the 1897 became known as the West Australian Club) is a club in Perth, Western Australia.
History
It was originally founded in 1893 as a gentlemen's club, and located in a building on St Georges' Terrace in Perth[1][2]
The club was as the Exchange Club in Sansom House in Perth, the location where visitors during the campaign for Australian federation visited [3]
The club was located for most of the twentieth century in the building at 46 St Georges Terrace [4][5] It was within a couple of city blocks from the older Weld Club (founded in the 1870s).
In the twenty first century, it has relocated, and become available for male and female membership. It also states its name in full, Western Australian Club, rather than West Australian Club as it had in earlier years.[6][7][8][9][10]
Membership
Original members of the club included Sir John Forrest and his brother Alexander. Other significant business and political leaders belonging to the club included - J. B. Hardwick, A. B. Bunning, Sir George Shenton, Newton Moore, Sir Edward Horne Wittenoom, Sir Ross McLarty and Honorary Life Member, Sir Charles Court.</Quote> [11]
