History
Established in April 2007, wi-Tribe delivers internet services to consumers in Pakistan, Jordan and Philippines, with a regional Head Office based in Doha, Qatar, backed by Ooredoo.[6]
The company has been expanding and launching its ventures worldwide, as part of Ooredoo's 2020 vision.[6]
Jordan
In 2008, operations were launched in Jordan, expanding to several cities across the kingdom. On 16 October 2012 the company cancelled its operations in Jordan due to a sudden increase of electricity fees and taxes imposed by the government.[6]
Pakistan
In 2009, wi-tribe group launched its largest operations in Pakistan. In Pakistan, wi-Tribe is operating in Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi and Faisalabad.[7][8][9] Wi-tribe Pakistan is an ICAEW (Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales) approved employer, and it is one of the only two telecom companies to receive this honor in Pakistan.[10] Qtel showed no interest in acquiring a 3G license in 2012, reasoning that most subscribers have no interest in advance mobile telecommunication services.[11]
Philippines
Wi‐tribe Philippines launched in 2010. This was the first expansion of the group into Southeast Asia.[6][12] In February 2010, Wi-Tribe launched "4G" wireless broadband service.[13]
