William Hodge, sometimes known as Billy Hodge,[1] was a Scottish football full back who played for Rangers and Brentford.

Career

Hodge began his career in Scotland with Scottish League Division One side Rangers, but made only 12 appearances for the club.[2] He moved to England to join Division Three South side Brentford in August 1927. Initially appearing as a wing half, an injury to Tom Adamson in October 1929 allowed Hodge to blossom as a full back.[2] Hodge was part of the Bees side which was crowned Division Three South champions at the end of the 1932/33 season, making a career-high 32 appearances.[3] In Division Two, Hodge lost his place at full back to Arthur Bateman and departed the club in 1935.[2] Hodge made 125 appearances and scored one goal during his seven years at Griffin Park.[2]

Personal life

Hodge had a brother who was also a footballer and played for Clyde.[2]
