Andrew Cheung Kui-nung (Chinese: 張舉能; born September 1961) is the Chief Judge of the High Court of Hong Kong.
Early life and education
Born and raised in Hong Kong, Cheung graduated from the University of Hong Kong with a Bachelor of Laws degree in 1983 and received his Postgraduate Certificate in Laws in 1984.
He then went to Harvard University and received his Master of Laws degree in 1985.[1]
Legal career
In 1985, Cheung was called to the Hong Kong Bar and he began private practice the following year. He was a Part-time Demonstrator of the Faculty of Law of the University of Hong Kong from 1983 to 1984 and became a Part-time Lecturer in 1986. He was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore in 1995.
After 15 years of private practice, Cheung was appointed as a judge of the District Court of Hong Kong in 2001. Sitting first as a Deputy High Court Judge in December 2001, he was appointed as a judge at the Court of First Instance of the High Court in 2003. He was then appointed as the Probate Judge in 2004, before becoming the Judge in charge of the Constitutional and Administrative Law List of the High Court in 2008.
In June 2011, Cheung was appointed as the Chief Judge of the High Court of Hong Kong.[1][2][3]
