Barbara Dare (born February 27, 1963) is the stage name of a Jewish-American former pornographic actress.[1] She was one of the industry's initial contract performers with Vivid Entertainment,[2] and is an AVN and XRCO Hall of Fame inductee.

Career
Dare began appearing in adult films in the mid-80's and also made appearances in magazines such as Hustler, Swank, and High Society. In 1989, she joined fellow adult film actress Stephanie Swift as authors of a monthly article for Swank.[3]
Dare was one of the top adult film stars of the 80s.[4] She appeared in scenes with several (at the time) top adult films stars, including Tracey Adams and Ginger Lynn.[5] She became one of the first women in the industry to sign an exclusivity contract with Essex Video for 10 movies a year and an annual salary of $150,000[6] and would later leave that studio to sign with Vivid Entertainment and become one of the earliest Vivid Girls.[7]
Dare appeared in her last film in 1994.[1] She continues to appear in new releases via compilation videos of archived footage and the use of previously unreleased video.[8][9][10]
Appearances
Dare was interviewed in 1987 for the episode of the television news series Frontline regarding the death of Shauna Grant.[11]
She also had minor roles in mainstream productions such as the Roy Scheider and Ann-Margret film 52 Pick-Up in 1986[12] and the live-action/animated Comedy-Horror B-movie Evil Toons[13] in 1992.

Personal life
Dare was born in Wayne, New Jersey and has had personal relationships with men and women.[17] At one time she was thought to be a lesbian after giving an interview in the lesbian porn magazine On Our Backs.[4] Later in 1987 after marrying a man, it was believed that Dare had simply been bisexual.[17]
