Diogo José Rosário Gomes Figueiras (born 1 July 1991) is a Portuguese professional footballer who plays for Greek club Olympiacos as a right back.

Football career

Early years

Born in Castanheira do Ribatejo e Cachoeiras, Vila Franca de Xira, Figueiras spent six years in S.L. Benfica's youth system. He made his senior debuts in the 2010–11 season, on loan at C.D. Pinhalnovense in the third division, which he helped reach the quarter-finals of the Taça de Portugal.[1]

Paços de Ferreira

Figueiras joined F.C. Paços de Ferreira in the Primeira Liga in the 2011 summer, signing a three-year contract.[2] He played his first game in the competition on 28 August, a 0–0 away draw against C.D. Feirense in which he was sent off;[3] in the following transfer window, he was loaned to Moreirense F.C. in the second level.[4]

Figueiras returned to Paços for the 2012–13 campaign, contributing with 19 games in 1,665 minutes of action as the club finished a best-ever third and qualified to the UEFA Champions League for the first time in its history.

Sevilla

On 18 July 2013, Figueiras moved abroad, penning a four-year deal with Sevilla FC in Spain.[5] He made his La Liga debut on 28 September, playing the full 90 minutes in a 1–1 draw at Real Sociedad.[6] In late December, he was handed a four-game ban after calling the referee a "son of a bitch" during a 0–2 home loss against Racing de Santander for the Copa del Rey (1–2 aggregate defeat).[7]

Figueiras scored his first goal as a senior on 16 March 2014, starting and netting his team's last in a 4–1 home win over Real Valladolid.[8] On 27 April, he was sent off in a 1–3 loss at Athletic Bilbao;[9] he played 12 matches of their victorious campaign in the UEFA Europa League, coming on late in extra time of the final, a penalty shootout win over S.L. Benfica in Turin.[10] The Andalusians went on to retain their continental crown, but he did not enter the field in the decisive game against FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk.[11]

On 9 July 2015, Figueiras was loaned to Genoa C.F.C. of Serie A, with the option to buy.[12] He totalled ten appearances for the team, scoring to open a 1–2 home loss to Carpi F.C. 1909 on 29 November;[13] the following 30 January his loan was cut short, with Sevilla manager Unai Emery needing cover for the injured Marco Andreolli. [14] He was not included in the squads for the team's Europa League win, or their domestic cup final defeat.

Olympiacos

On 25 May 2016, Figueiras signed a three-year contract with Greek champions Olympiacos F.C. for a fee of €1.5 million; he was managed by his compatriot Marco Silva.[15]
