Super Junior-Donghae & Eunhyuk (Korean: 슈퍼주니어-동해&은혁, also known as Super Junior-D&E or D&E) is the fifth official subgroup of the South Korean boy band Super Junior, formed by SM Entertainment in 2011. The sub-group is composed of two Super Junior members Donghae and Eunhyuk. The duo's first official performance was on December 16, 2011, on KBS's Music Bank, performing '떴다 오빠 (Oppa, Oppa)'.[1] The group released their first Korean extended play (EP), The Beat Goes On on March 9, 2015.[2]

History

2011–2012: Formation and Oppa, Oppa

The Super Junior duo released their digital single called "떴다 오빠 (Oppa, Oppa)" on December 16, 2011, which included two songs, "Oppa Oppa" and "First Love", through various Korean music portals like Melon, Bugs, Mnet. The duo presented the song officially on December 16 in Music Bank.[1]

The song "Oppa Oppa" was first introduced in Super Show 4 on November 19, 2011. A month later, SM Entertainment announced that Donghae and Eunhyuk would promote the song in several shows like Music Bank, Music Core, Inkigayo and M! Countdown. The song's music video was released on December 16, 2011. A second music video was released on December 21, 2011 which was edited and directed by Shindong, another Super Junior member. Amber of f(x), Peter and Youngsky of One Way group and Sungmin and Shindong feature in the music video.

Later in April 4, 2012, they release their first Japanese single in Japan. The single includes two songs, the song "Oppa, Oppa" and "First Love". "Oppa, Oppa" reached 2nd place on Oricon single daily and weekly charts, and #1 on Tower Records single chart.[3]

2013: I Wanna Dance and Still You

Peter of Team One Sound wrote through Twitter that the duo would release new songs in 2013.[4] On June 19, 2013, the duo released their second Japanese single "I Wanna Dance" which also includes the B-side track "Love That I Need" featuring Super Junior-M member Henry.

They released their second Korean single "Still You" on December 18, 2013. The music video for "Still You" was filmed in London. "Still You" was first performed at SM Town Week: Super Junior Treasure Island on 28 and 29, December 2013.[5]

2014: Ride Me, Skeleton and Japan tour

Donghae & Eunhyuk revealed during Super Show 5 in Osaka that they would release their first album, followed by their first tour, in Japan. Their first album, Ride Me was released on February 26, 2014.[6] "Motorcycle" was the lead single of the album. The short version of the PV was released through Avex's YouTube channel on February 2. The song became the main theme of the Japanese TV show, 'Sukkiri'.

Super Junior-D&E The 1st Japan Tour was kicked off in Nagoya on 4 March 2014, going through 8 cities including Osaka, Hiroshima, Fukuoka, Kobe, Niigata, Budokan and Tokyo for 22 performances. The boys sang a total of 22 songs, including "I Wanna Dance", "Oppa Oppa", and "BAMBINA".[7] The boys wrap up their concert from May 8 to 10 in Budokan attracting a total of 100,000 fans for their 1st Japan Tour. Shortly after D&E 1st Japan Tour, the duo released their 3rd Japanese single titled "Skeleton" on August 6, 2014.[8]

2015–Present: The Beat Goes On, Present, Let's Get It On and concert tours

In February 2015, it was announced that the duo will release their first physical album in South Korea. The showcase for their first album, The Beat Goes On took place at the SMTOWN Coex Artium on March 5. The album released online on March 6 and offline on March 9. Donghae participated in the album production along with producers The Underdogs, Hitchhiker, NoizeBank and more.[2] The duo made their comeback performance on the Korean music show Music Bank with the songs "Growing Pains" and "The Beat Goes On" on March 6, 2015 and kept promotions going on Music Core, Inkigayo and M! Countdown.[9] On March 24, The duo released special edition album for The Beat Goes On. Including the seven tracks in the original album, "Oppa, Oppa", "1+1=LOVE", "Still You", "Motorcycle", "Love That I Need", and "I Wanna Dance" from its previous digital singles and Korean versions of Japanese songs for a total of 13 tracks in the special edition album.[10]

On April 1, the duo released first Japanese mini-EP called Present, which contained a total of eight songs including the lead title "Saturday Night".[11] Beginning in Saitama on 3 April, the duo kicked off its second tour "Super Junior D&E The 2nd Japan Tour", holding concerts in Osaka, Nagoya, and Fukuoka with a total of four cities and 10 concerts. The concerts gathered more than 100,000 fans.[8]

Super Junior-D&E Asia Tour was kicks off in Taipei on June 6, going through 4 Asia cities including Taipei, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Bangkok for 5 performances.[12][13]After D&E Asia Tour, the duo released their fourth Japanese single titled "Let's Get It On" on September 30.

On October 4, the Gangnam K-Pop Festival was held on Yeongdong Street in Seoul. It marked Donghae and Eunhyuk final public appearance before heading to the army.[14]
