Eugenia Kumacheva is a Professor of Chemistry at the University of Toronto.

Early life and education

Eugenia Kumacheva was born in Odessa, Soviet Union. She graduated from the Technical University in Leningrad and earned a doctorate from the Russian Academy of Science.

Career and research

Later[when?] she joined the Weizmann Institute of Science on a scholarship from the Minerva Foundation. She joined the University of Toronto in 1996.[1] She is the Canada Research Chair in Advanced Polymer Materials.[2]

Her research focuses on the fundamental and applied science of soft matter, such as polymers, colloids, gels and liquid crystals.

Honours and awards

She was awarded the L'Oréal-UNESCO Awards for Women in Science in 2008 "for the design and development of new materials with many applications including targeted drug delivery for cancer treatments and materials for high density optical data storage".[3][4][5] She was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2016.[6]
