This name uses Spanish naming customs: the first or paternal family name is Hernández and the second or maternal family name is Ramírez.

Francisco Hernández Ramírez (born 11 July 1949) is a retired football player from Costa Rica.

Better known as Chico, he played his entire career for Deportivo Saprissa, where he was captain and an idol. He is vastly remembered for his quickness, great shooting skills, leadership and sense of team organizement inside the field. He was part of the famous Saprissa's midfield whose way of playing made history in the CONCACAF region.

Club career

He played during the 70s and 80s with Costa Rica's national team and for Saprissa, winning a total of eight titles with them, including the famous six consecutive championships won by Saprissa from 1972 to 1977,[1] a record both in Costa Rica as well as in the American continent. His brother, the extraordinarily talented Fernando Hernández, El Príncipe, played for Saprissa too. He retired on 27 November 1983.

International career

He played 31 matches for Costa Rica and scored 5 goals.[2] He represented his country in 2 FIFA World Cup qualification matches[3] and also played for Costa Rica at the 1980 Summer Olympics.[4]
