History
Hypergamouse was originally created by Vox Day with art by JartStar for the blog Alpha Game on February 20, 2012.[1]. Nine episodes were released between February 20th and April 16th 2012[2]. The comic was then reintroduced with artist Lacey Fairchild on April 28th, 2020 intending to be run on the online comics platform Webtoons. In an effort to capture the largely empty market for western style comics in an online platform Arkhaven Comics ended its presence on Webtoons and created its own webcomic platform under the name Arktoons, launched on April 28th, 2021[3]. Hypergamouse was announced that it would be available on Arktoons on April 23rd, 2021[4]. It is one of the most popular comics on the Arktoons platform being the second comic on Arktoons to have 200,000 views.
premise
Hypergamouse deals with different aspects of interactions between and within the sexes by featuring anthropomorphized mice. There are various aspects of the Social Sexual Hierarchy as well as examples of modern stereotypes such as career women, gaming nerds, and obsessive girlfriends. These characters interact in a familiar amusing way that is sometimes hyperbolic and sometimes much closer to reality.
Characters
- Mari- A helpful and sensible female that appears in a blue dress. First appearance in Episode 1: Be Yourself[5].
- Doof- Nerdy male who wears an Overwatch shirt and tan shorts and thinks he is smarter and more clever than he is. He is the stereotypical example of a midwit and gamma male. First appearance in Episode 1: Be Yourself[6].
- Apex- A fit an attractive male popular with the female and male mice. He is the stereotypical alpha male. First apperance in Episode 2: Piece of Cheese [7]
- Mindy- Apex's girlfriend usually dressed in pink top and dark grey skirt. She is a stereotypical clingy girlfriend, while not lacking in looks she makes up any for deficit with enthusiasm. First apperance in Episode 2: Piece of Cheese [8]
- Cate- A female that just doesn't get why men aren't interested in her. She usually wears a tan top, a brown skirt, with a blue overcoat. She is the stereotypical career woman. first appearance in Episode 5: Everything a Man Wants[9].
- Stoke- A regular male and Doof's friend usually wearing a green top and blue/green pants. He is a stereotypical delta male. First Appearance in Episode 13: Standards[10]
- Jami- A very attractive redhead she typically wears a green crop top and blue skirt. She is a stereotypical self obsessed internet hot girl. First appearance in Episode 12: Alpha Problems[11]
