Jet Ng (born 10 May 1998) is a Singaporean foil fencer.

Career

Ng entered the Singapore National Team at age 13, the youngest male to ever do so. By December 2013, Ng became the Cadet National Captain, leading Singapore to a then-record 8th placing in the Team Event in the European Cadet Circuit in Cabriès, France, beating 1st seeded Netherlands 45-29 in the top 16. The result was shocking as no Singaporean fencer made it past the round of 128 in the individual event. Singapore would return to the event the next year, placing 5th, after falling to Japan.

Ng also participated in many Southeast Asian and Asian Fencing Championships. In the Southeast Asian Championships in 2013, Ng won a bronze medal in the Cadet Individual event, beating compatriot Christian Lim 15-10, in the quarter-finals. He also won 2 Gold medals in the Junior and Cadet Team Events. In the same competition in 2014, Ng won a silver medal in the Cadet Individual event beating Kevin Chan 15-9 in the quarter-finals and Ryan Ong 15-13 in the semi-finals. Ng also won a bronze in the Junior Individual event after upsetting Youth Olympian Justin Ong 15-10 in the quarter-final, before falling to Nathaniel Perez of the Philippines.

Ng also has a good record in the Asian Fencing Championships, which he debuted in 2012. In the Cadet Individual event, Ng beat Taipei fencer, Chen, 11-10, after scoring 3 points in 4 seconds to send the match to overtime. In 2013, Ng beat Korean fencer Yang, 12-10, being the first-ever Singaporean to beat a Korean. Jet placed in the top 16 for both events, losing to Cheung of Hong Kong 15-8, and 15-10 respectively. In the 2013 Cadet Team Event, Ng fenced +9 points against Korea in the top 8, giving Singapore a 43-42 victory, upsetting the Koreans. Ng was omitted from the 2014 Asian Championships squad. In 2015, Ng suffered a shock 15-14 loss to Hong Kong's Chiu in the top 16, after being seeded 1st. In the Cadet Team Event, Jet helped Singapore achieve a silver medal after falling to Japan 45-33 in the final. In the Junior Team Event, Singapore fell to Japan in the semi-finals, 45-35 and beat Kuwait 45-27 in the 3rd/4th playoff.

Ng also participated in many European Cadet competitions. In 2014, Ng placed 15th in the Cadet Circuit in Halle, beating Japan's Ito Takuma 15-12.

In the 2015 World Cadet Fencing Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, Ng placed 5th overall, being a new national and regional record for a Southeast Asian fencer, bettering the 8th placed set by compatriot, Joshua Ian Lim in 2012.

Ng participated in the 2015 Junior World Cup held in Bangkok, Thailand. In the team event, Singapore fenced against close rivals, Australia in the top 8, beating their opponents 45-27. Ng won all 3 of his matches, including a 5-2 win over Shoulto Douglas. In the semi-finals, Singapore lost to Japan, 45-34. After a dismal start, with Singapore trailing 10-2, Ng went up against his rival and world Junior rank 2 at the time, Japan's Toshiya Saito, bringing Singapore back into the game with an 8-5 victory, putting the score at 15-10 for Japan. However, Singapore were unable to gain momentum and lost the match. Ng and his teammates lost to Russia in the 3rd/4th playoff, finishing the nation's first Junior World Cup Team outing with a strong 4th position.

Ng trains in Z Fencing International Academy in Singapore, but also trains overseas regularly. He usually trains in JISS in Japan and Tauber in Germany.
