Leeds Law School, is the law school of Leeds Beckett University, located in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. Leeds Law School is one of the two brands within the Faculty of Business & Law – the other brand is Leeds Business School. Leeds is the UK's largest centre for business, legal, and financial services outside London, and according to the most recent Office for National Statistics estimates, Leeds is the fastest growing city in the UK. The city was voted the Best UK University Destination by a survey in The Independent newspaper.[1]
The Leeds Law School provision was praised by the Law Society and Quality Assurance Agency in 2004 and has a student satisfaction rate of 74%[2]
The Head of Leeds Law school is Deveral Capps, who joined Leeds Beckett in February 2015.[3] It offers a full range of undergraduate, postgraduate and professional law courses, as well as having a flourishing Law Research Unit. Postgraduate law courses include the Legal Practice Course (LPC) and the conversion course, the Postgraduate Diploma in Law. Undergraduate courses include LLB (Hons) Law and BA (Hons) Law with Criminology.

Leeds Law school students are constantly brought into contact with top professionals from the legal world. The staff have significant professional expertise from their experience of working as solicitors or barristers. Their Mentoring Scheme has over 100 professional mentors and encourages postgraduate law students to link with a professional mentor.
There is also an external speaker programme, examples of some upcoming lectures this academic year include professionals from; DWF Solicitors, Bolder Solutions, Clarion Solicitors, Norton Rose LLP, the Crown Prosecution Service, Eversheds LLP and Grant Thornton UK LLP, four of which are in the top 200 UK Law Firms. Leeds Law School students are encouraged to take part in many legal competitions during their time at the school, including; the Clarion Commercial Challenge[4] which was designed to test the students' ability to deal with a number of commercial and legal issues affecting the fictitious company 'Igloo Cuisine Express'. The prize for this was a work placement at Clarion Solicitors.
Location & Facilities
Cloth Hall Court is Leeds Law School's home in the heart of Leeds' legal quarter. Facilities include modern lecture theatres, a mock court room and dedicated resource room for postgraduate students. Cloth Hall Court is built in a classical stoneclad style and was constructed between 1980-1983. The Law School has been based there since 2005.
Student Life at Leeds Law School
The Student Law Society is one of the most active groups at Leeds Beckett, with over 500 members. The Student Law Society promises an interesting overview of news articles, members' accomplishments, learning topics, and a gateway to easily network with other students and local, national and international companies. Leeds Law School students often take part in mooting competitions, using the Mock Court Room at Cloth Hall Court.
Many Law Society members also take part in the Streetlaw project, a student-led initiative which delivers interactive workshops in schools on issues such as anti-social behaviour legislation and young people's rights and responsibilities.
