Nikos Milas

Nikolaos "Nikos" Milas (Greek: Νικόλαος Μήλας, born 1928 in Athens) is a former basketball player and coach from Greece.[1]

Career

He was a technician and dribbler to appeal to feints and shoot.[2][3] He played for Panathinaikos and the Greek national team. He won three greek championships (1949–50, 1950–51, 1953–54). He was international player with the National Team in 8 matches. Participated in the Eurobasket 1949 in Egypt where he won the bronze medal and in Eurobasket 1951. Milas also participated the Mediterranean Games in 1951 and the 1952 Summer Olympics basketball tournament of Helsinky (two loses against Hungary and Israel).

Coaching

In 1961 he won the Greek league from the post of coach of Panathinaikos.[4] He was coach of AEK in 1968 when they won the FIBA European Cup Winner's Cup in Kallimármaro, Athens, against the Czechoslovak powerhouse of the sixtie's, Slavia Prague.[5] On the bench of AEK he won two domestic championships in 1967–68 and 1969–70 (this was the last for the club until 2001-02 season).[6] In 1969–70 Nikos Milas also, led AEK to the semi-finals of FIBA European Cup Winner's Cup, where his team defeated by the French Vichy (60-78 defeat in France and 74-65 win in Athens).
