Project Runway: Junior is an American reality television series that premiered on November 12, 2015 on Lifetime. It is the eighth direct spin-off series of another series Project Runway aired on the same network. It features twelve teen designers aged between 13 and 17. The designers are described by Tim Gunn as "kids [who] have grown up watching this show" (Project Runway).[1]

The show is co-hosted by Tim Gunn and Hannah Davis, with Gunn also serving as the designers' workroom mentor. In his role as mentor, Tim Gunn has a "Tim Gunn Save" with which he may bring back an eliminated designer once per season at his discretion. The three judges are fashion designer Christian Siriano (Project Runway Season 4's winner), fashion critic and designer Kelly Osbourne and Aya Kanai, executive fashion editor at Cosmopolitan and Seventeen magazines.

According to Executive Producer Sara Rea, Project Runway: Junior is a re-creation of the original adult series with no concessions in the difficulty of challenges or critiques being made for the contestants' ages. The unconventional challenge featured items from a car wash and one challenge was introduced by First Lady Michelle Obama.[2] The winner of Project Runway: Junior will receive a full scholarship to the prestigious Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in California, a complete home sewing and crafting studio provided by Brother, a feature in Seventeen Magazine and a $25,000 cash prize, to help launch their line.[3]

Episode 1: Welcome to New York

The young designers met with Hannah and Tim on the Gotham West rooftop. For this "First Impressions" challenge they were to create a look in one day that best showed off their design style while using the city of New York as inspiration. The designers were given 30 minutes to sketch and take pictures. The next morning they visited Mood with 45 minutes to shop and a $200 budget for materials. During the critique, the winner Samantha shared that she only spent $43 at Mood. Samantha's win gives her immunity for the second episode.[4][5]

Episode 2: An Unconventional Car Wash

Episode 2 was an unconventional materials challenge. The young designers were required to create garments out of items found at a carwash. Who was inspired by the microfibre, tubing and sponges and who was washed out of the competition?[6]

Episode 3: Teamwork is Hard

The designers are divided into two teams of five and must create cohesive mini collections inspired by the decades. When team 1960's (Jesse, Peytie, Maya, Matt and Samantha) gets off to a bad start, they find themselves going back to the drawing board...more than once!!!

First Lady Michelle Obama surprises the designers with one of the most exciting challenges of the season when one winning design will be manufactured and sold on landsend.com to benefit the Peace Corps' initiative, Let Girls Learn.
