Salique (Bengali: সালিক; born 28 March 1990) is an English singer-songwriter and fitness model.

Early life

Salique was born and brought up in Camden Town, London, England,[2][3] and is of Bangladeshi origin.[4][5] At the age of 10, he first realised his passion for music and was encouraged by his mother.[6][7][8][9]

Salique did A-levels in Maths, Business Studies and Drama. In 2012, he graduated in Civil Engineering from Kingston University.[10]

Career

Salique has listened to and been inspired by artists from the East and West.[4][5] At the age of 16, he first recorded in a studio with family friend Mumzy Stranger.[10] On 24 October 2013, his debut single "Let Me In" was released with independent UK record company Black Label Records. The single was produced by and features Mumzy Stranger, and has a sound with a fusion of R&B, Asian and Arabic harmonies with soulful Punjabi and Arabic influences.[6][7][11] The single was number one on the world iTunes music chart.[4][5] On 6 November 2013, the video was released.[12]

In October 2013, Salique was interviewed by Nihal on BBC Asian Network.[10][13] In December 2013, he was interviewed by Gagan Grewal on BBC Asian Network.[14]

On 22 February 2014, Salique's second single "Call on Me" was released, produced by Official Vee.[15] On 28 August 2014, his third single "Yallah Azizi (I Think I Love You)" was released, produced by Official Vee.[16] The song is a distinct fusion of R&B, Eastern and Arabic harmonies, including Urdu and Arabic lyrics.[4][5] The single immediately took the number one position on the iTunes world music chart and secured the number two spot on the BBC Asian Network Official Chart.[16] In August of the same year, Salique performed at the London Mela in Gunnersbury Park, London.[17]

Salique is currently working with producer 2Play (Wesley Johnson).[6][7] Salique's urban sound reflects his musical interest combining a British and Desi influence which pays homage to his cultural background.[6][7] In addition to his Urban and Desi side, Salique can sing in Arabic too.[2][3]

Salique has also modelled for sports and fitness magazines.[10]
