Stokes or Carolina is an unincorporated community in Pitt County, North Carolina, United States. The community is a part of the Greenville Metropolitan Area in North Carolina's Inner Banks region.

History

The Thomas Sheppard Farm was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.[1]

Education

Stokes' local school is Stokes Elementary School, serving grades pre-K through 8th; North Pitt High School serving grades 9-12. Stokes is the birthplace and childhood home of Grover H. Roberson, son of John Henry Roberson, Sr. and Annie Virginia Warren Roberson. Grover was an officer in the U.S. Navy and fought for his country at the famous Battle of Anzio, Italy, during World War II. After the Japanese surrender, Grover, known as Robie to his friends and family, settled in South Thomaston, Maine, after his marriage to Dorothy Ann Baum.
