'Suryaputra Karna' (Meaning :-Son of Sun God - Karna) is an ongoing Indian History television series, which premiered on 29 June 2015 on Sony Entertainment Television (India) and Sony Entertainment Television Asia. The show airs Monday through Saturday nights at 8:30 PM. The series is created and produced by Siddharth Kumar Tewary of Swastik Pictures starring Gautam Rode as Karna, Navi Bhangu as Arjuna, Saurabh Pandey as Krishna, Priya Bathija as Kunti, Naved Aslam as Bhishma, Shaleen Bhanot as Duryodhan, Kanan Malhotra as Yudhisthira, Pankhuri Awasthy as Draupadi, Ajay Jayram as Shakuni, Ketan Karande as Bhima, Surendra Pal as Parshuram, Buneet Kapoor as Nakula, Suchit. V Singh as Sahadeva, Nimai Bali as Guru Drona, Kunal Bakshi as Aswatthama, Meghan Jadhav as Abhimanyu .It has been rated 9.2/10 on IMDb. The show covers life journey of the greatest warrior of all time Karna and one of the central characters from the Mahabharata.[1][2]
Karanvir Bohra, Karan Grover and Karan Tacker approached for playing the lead role of Karna. Avinesh Rekhi also signed for the series.[3] but Gautam Rode got the opportunity to essay this great role. During early April 2016 story turned to Mahabharat war chapter.In 2015 Gautam Rode won the best actor award for this show. It will go off air on July 2016 and it will be replace by Chandragupta Maurya.
Plot summary
The story revolves around one of the central characters of Mahabharata and the best archer of Mahabharata Karna and his point of view. The show covers life journey of Karna on his way of becoming a great warrior and a great personality.The story starts from the Sage Durvasa boon to Kunti as she could invoke any deity and could bear his child.Out of Curiosity she decided to test the boon and uttered the mantra calling upon the Sun god and was handed a baby Karna.Kunti an unwed mother, set afloat on the river Ganga with a heavy heart in order to avoid the embarrassment of having a child before marriage.After her marriage to Pandu she invoked other deities and had her sons Yudhisthira, Bhima, Arjuna and Nakula and Sahadeva (from Madri). Then it is shown the early life of Karna and his brother (step brother) Shon . Then the learning from parshuram is shown how he becomes the best archer.Then the competition is held in Hastinapur for the pandavas and kauravas where Karna came and show his skills then Duryodhan made him 'Angaraj' the ruler of the kingdom Anga when the pandavas were making fun of him .Then the Draupadi Swayamvar is shown were Karna is again insulted.then the rajsuya yagya,chir haran episode and agyatvas is shown.Then the Kurushetra war is shown where shri Krishna imparts Bhagwad Gita to his Pandav cousin Arjuna. the battle saw the death of Bhishma, Karna among many. All the sons of Dhritarashtra died in the war,except Yuyutsu, his son through a vaisya woman Sugdha . This show has good response and has a good TRP.
